Ranji Trophy Day 2: Shreyas Gopal slams stunning rearguard hundred



GROUP A
Tamil Nadu vs Jammu & Kashmir:Starting their day at a precarious 28/3, Jammu & Kashmir faltered in their chase as Rahil Shah and Malolan Rangarajan ran amok, taking 4 wickets each. The duo took wickets at regular intervals and if it hadn't been for Hardeep Singh's defiant 35, J&K would have found themselves in much deeper trouble. They were bowled out for a paltry 132, handing J&K a 122-run lead. 
In reply, the hosts made a solid start with the openers taking 69/0. After they lost Mohan Gandhi, Abhinav Mukund took over and slammed a pacy, unbeaten hundred. He was well supported by Baba Aparajith (53*). TN ended the day in a dominant position at 199/1.

Uttar Pradesh vs Madhya Pradesh:Starting day 2 at 195/7, Madhya Pradesh needed their lower-order to come good and Puneet Datey gave his side exactly that as he scored a vital 63 to lift his team's score to 296-all out. Kuldeep Yadav was the most successful bowler for Uttar Pradesh with 4/48. 
Ishwar Pandey gave Uttar Pradesh a much-needed boost as his three-wicket burst reduced the visitors to 149/6 at stumps on Day 2. Umang Sharma was the top-scorer with a handy 58.

Bengal vs Karnataka:Vinay Kumar continued his resistance for the visitors on Day 2 as he helped bail Karnataka out of trouble. However, the star with the bat turned out to be as Shreyas Gopal cracked a fabulous 145 to put his side in a commanding position. Sreenath Aravind, too, has offered him good support for the last wicket, with the duo adding a vital 148 runs. Ashoke Dinda bowled brilliantly and had figures of 7/87 to show for his efforts. 
In reply, Bengal were 62/1.

Railways vs Mumbai:No play was possible on Day 2 due to rain, and subsequently a wet outfield.

GROUP B
Haryana vs MaharashtraIt turned out to be a manic day at Rohtak as 18 wickets fell on Day 2, which saw the hosts eke out a 31-run lead despite scoring just 136 in their first innings. 
Resuming at 41/2 after a rain-hit 1st day, Haryana lost wickets in a hurry to be bowled out for 136. Sachin Rana top-scored with 41, but only 3 other batsmen could get their score into double figures. Samad Fallah was Maharastra's best bowler taking 5 wickets. Maharastra's batsmen, however, couldn't do much about Ashish Hooda wreaking havoc, as he claimed 5 wickets for 27 runs. The last year's finalists were bowled out for 105.

Rajasthan vs SaurashtraNo play was possible on Day 2 due to rain, and subsequently a wet outfield.

Odisha vs Gujarat:
After bowling out hosts Odisha for 225(thanks largely to Natraj Behera's 75), Gujurat, led by Bhargav Merai's unbeaten 87, scored 255 for the loss of 4 wickets to end Day 2 well ahead. Merai's knock was a patient one, as he held up one end for more than 212 deliveries. However, the knock proved to be the fulcrum around which Gujurat's spirited reply revolved around.
Brief Scores: Odisha 225 all-out (Natraj Behera 75, Rush Kalaria 6/59) vs Gujarat (Bhargav Merai 87*, Biplab Samantray 2/42).
Vidarbha vs Punjab:Under Subramaniam Badrinath's able leadership, Vidarbha skittled out Punjab for just 195 runs on the board. In reply, Badrinath starred with the bat as his defiant knock of 62 took Vidarbha to 149

GROUP C
Hyderabad vs Goa:Overnight centurions Tanmay Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari fell early on day 2 but Hyderabad continued to dominate. Syed Quadri scored a century as well as Goa were made to toil.

Assam vs Jharkhand:KB Arun Karthik missed his century by just 3 runs and was the stand-out performer for Assam. Jharkhand got off to a solid start thanks to a solid knock from opener, Ishan Kishen and managed to take the lead by the end of the second day.

Andhra vs Kerala:Kerala were bowled out early on day 2 but their bowlers hit back strongly to bag the lead. Skipper Mohammad Kaif and AG Pradeep were the only ones to offer a fight but it was still not enough to help Andhra get close to Kerala's total.

Services vs Tripura:The first day was completely washed out but play started on the second with Services opting to bowl. The bowlers put Tripura under pressure immediately with early strikes. However, Numbers 5, 6 and 7 fought back to put help Tripura end the day with honours shared.
Brief Scores: Tripura 267/5 (Yogesh Takawale 89, Rajesh Banik 49*, Suraj Yadav 2/56).
